TEAM DEVELOPMENT
Build a learning plan for your whole clinic team
Connect each role to a clear learning goal, then turn course topics into an achievable team plan.

A clinic team may include physicians, assistants, support staff and managers with different experience and responsibilities. A useful learning plan starts with those differences and gives each person a clear purpose for training.
Map the work before choosing courses
Write down the main responsibilities in your team and the workflows that connect them. Identify where a shared understanding would help: communication, record coordination, induction or handing over administrative tasks.
Choose one goal for each role
A new support colleague may need an introduction to the workplace and its routines. An assistant may want better patient-coordination skills. A supervisor may need to organise induction or review service quality. Physician learning should follow the relevant professional pathway.
Read the curriculum together
Compare the listed modules and topics with those goals. Separate shared foundation learning from specialty awareness and leadership development. Ask about any requirement or delivery detail that is not yet stated.
Give learning a place in the working week
Agree time for study, discussion and a suitable work-based task. Do not introduce a new clinical task simply because it appears in an educational topic; practical duties need the appropriate authorisation, supervision and competency assessment.
Review understanding and the workflow
After learning, ask colleagues to explain the relevant process, identify who owns each step and discuss where they still need support. Course completion and readiness for a particular duty are separate questions.
Take it into your learning plan
- Plan around roles and responsibilities.
- Keep shared learning and specialist learning distinct.
- Review what the team understands and what support remains.
An educational practice guide. Follow the policies, responsibilities and professional requirements that apply to your own workplace.
